Civic leaders enjoyed a slice of cake or two as a Huddersfield law firm got its annual charity push under way.

Ridley & Hall has named Kirkwood Hospice at Dalton as its charity for the coming 12 months and got the fundraising under way at a launch event featuring home-made cakes and other attractions.

Staff at the Market Street offices were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Clrs Ken Smith and Christine Smith for the event, which raised £186.

Nicki Heaversedge, of Ridley & Hall, said: “We have a target of raising £5,000 for the hospice over the course of the year.

“The hospice is close to everyone’s hearts. Every year, we ask staff to nominate a charity to support and the cause with the most votes wins.”

Fundraising events planned over coming months include a Hallowe’en fancy dress day on Friday October 31 and a Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Staff plan to bring their efforts to a close with a charity fashion show next September.
