CAMPAIGNERS battling against the proposed shutting of Huddersfield’s Tourist Information Office believe they have discovered the real reason for its closure.
They think the office – along with other council buildings – will be needed to accommodate council staff when it is thought the lease ends on Oldgate House this autumn.
This large building is now home for many council workers – along with the University Of The Third Age.
The campaigners believe the tourist office closure which has angered them so much is nothing to do with saving money, more a need to free up some vital office space.
Kirklees officials are not saying much on the subject other than to confirm that Oldgate House is leased and the council is reviewing all its town centre office space.
So long as they are so non-committal the rumours will no doubt carry on – and U3A officials will continue to worry.
