Clearly out of town

IN response to a letter (A place to park, Mailbag, October 11), referring to the Midlothian site for the proposed Tesco development, I can assure readers that this site is most definitely ‘out of town’.

The idea that all parking spaces would be quickly taken up by people working in Holmfirth, or visiting for the day, in my opinion, is ludicrous.

If this were the case, the parking already available there would be well used now, and this is not happening.

Except on an evening, when I presume those parked there are residents, it is virtually empty.

I am probably fitter than ‘most people’, still playing competitive squash and hockey, and yet it took me 15 minutes, walking downhill at a good pace, to the centre of Holmfirth without any encumbrances such as children.

The route is not particularly pleasant with the continuous flow of traffic and lorries thundering by.

I think that at the end of the day the return uphill walk of 20 minutes back to the vehicle would be very off-putting, particularly in winter.
