‘I don’t believe it’

IN the immortal words of Victor Meldrew ‘I just don’t believe it’.

I have just been to Marsden where the A62 Manchester Road is being resurfaced.

It is not the fact that the road is being resurfaced that I cannot believe, but the fact that the road has no potholes. It is in excellent relative condition compared with other KMC roads.

When the vast majority of Kirklees roads are now absolutely littered with potholes, some 5ins deep, Kirklees highways are resurfacing a road that has none.

The priority should be to fix the roads with vast numbers of potholes first, not those that have no problems at all.

This is a sheer waste of taxpayers’ money once again. Being a qualified civil engineer I can say that it will probably cost £50,000 and maybe £100,000 for this extensive work.

Every day now we drive our vehicles trying to miss pothole after pothole. How can this be good for road safety?

Why do we need speed humps when it’s impossible to drive fast anyway on most of our roads without damaging our vehicles?

We pay our many of our senior management at Kirklees well over £100,000 a year.

Victor Meldrew would have been in despair.
