Plucky pupils have put their best feet forward for a hospice.

Four dedicated Scissett Middle School pupils put on their walking shoes to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

The enterprising youngsters took on a six-mile sponsored walk as well as dreaming up other fundraising initiatives in the run up to Christmas.

The children’s efforts raised more than £700 of vital funds for the Dalton based hospice.

Ten-year-olds Hollie Greaves, Brooke Fletcher and Daisy Cousen, and eleven-year-old Libby Hughes, who are all firm friends at school, started making and selling jewellery to family and friends before hitting on the idea of a sponsored walk.

They walked all the way from Clayton West to Cannon Hall – and back.

Not only did the four girls walk the whole way, each one of them did it wearing a brightly coloured onesie.

They even managed to get in on the action at an historical recreation at Cannon Hall – all while dressed in their impressively colourful attire.

Their efforts raised £362.30 which has been match funded by the Lloyds Banking Group.

Daisy’s Grandma was looked after by the hospice recently and one of the girl’s friends also had a grandparent who was cared for at Kirkwood, factors which led to their decision to take on the fundraising initiatives.

Gabrielle Butler, fundraiser at Kirkwood was delighted by the effort of all four girls.

She said: “It just goes to show that fundraising for Kirkwood comes from all ages within our fantastic community.

“The girls’ efforts have been fantastic and are really appreciated by everyone here at the hospice”.
