Colne Valley Museum is joining in the Heritage Open Days events this weekend.

“Mrs. Pearson” and her neighbours will be baking scones in the Victorian kitchen at the Cliffe Ash, Golcar museum, and visitors are invited along to see, taste and buy.

As an added attraction Tea For Two will be served in the 1920s-style tearooms upstairs, where for £2 visitors can enjoy delicious home-made scones and jam, with fresh cream sponsored by Andrews’ greengrocer’s of Holmfirth, and served up with Yorkshire Tea sponsored by Taylor’s of Harrogate.

Visitors are also in for a treat with the current exhibition West Riding in Miniature, featuring the wonderfully crafted miniature buildings of this part of Yorkshire, made by Robert Silkstone.

These include many long gone treasures including Firth’s Carpet Mill, the Palace Picture House, Cleckheaton, as well as the huge Busby’s store in Bradford.

Robert has written the history for each of his exquisite models, and hopes they will open up memories for older visitors as well as giving insights into the local architecture and heritage for the younger generation.

The museum will be open from 2 to 5pm today and tomorrow.
