The Co-operative’s move of premises in Kirkburton could be held up by noisy air-conditioners and fridges.

The supermarket is set to move from its current store on North Road into former pub, The Royal, across the road.

The supermarket group was given full permission to revamp the pub in July but council officials inserted a condition regarding noise from plant works.

Developers recently applied to remove the condition but last week their bid was denied.

Kirklees Council planners deemed vital air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment would be too noisy.

Officials say the two sets of units to be located to the side and rear of the building will be detrimental to residents living nearby.

The scheme can still go ahead if a solution to the excess noise levels can be found.

The new store is expected to open in the new year subject to construction work progressing as planned, and the necessary licensing permission being obtained.

It will have a sales area of around 2,200 sq ft, and dedicated car parking spaces.
