Plans have been approved to transform the outlook and provision of local amenities in Sheepridge.

As reported, Mahmood Choudhury submitted a planning permission for a new off-licence and apartments last month.

And it will create six new local jobs.

The impressive new store and living accommodation will see the existing premises demolished.

The site will be extended to incorporate waste land which currently has created an eyesore around the area which has seen neighbouring shops regenerated.

The designs, which have been produced by Barkisland firm Jade3 Architecture, show an eco-friendly new build with a clock tower.

The proposal is to further encourage regeneration of the Sheepridge area and will also ensure disabled access to the local amenities and parking.

The welcome investment in Sheepridge comes at the end of a decade long regeneration of the area.

The report reads: “The grand vision is to create a flagship building for the village to keep ahead but complements with the local nearby shops and facilities.”

Kirklees Council granted full planning permission on September 1 subject to conditions.

The conditions include approval of CCTV, illuminations, security shutters, roofing, solar panels, fencing and noise emitions.

The development will be phased so the current off-licence can continue trading while the new one is built.

Building works will be permitted between 7.30am and 6.30pm weekdays, and Saturday 8am -1pm to minimise distruption to residents.
