A celebrity quiz team proved to be a challenge too far for Britain’s brainiest pub-goers.

The Lions, of the Black Bull public house in Shepley, took on a team made up of ‘Governess’ Anne Hegerty and ‘The Beast’ Mark Labbett from ITV quiz show The Chase, along with BBC’s Eggheads Dave Rainford and Barry Simmons.

The Lions team – David Bill, James Worsley, Jamie Turner and Amy Turner – won the chance to take on the telly stars after beating more than 600 Punch Taverns pubs across the country to be named Great British Pub Quiz champions.

The celebrity brain boxes attended the Quiz Masters Challenge at the Marsh Lane pub and going into the final round, The Lions were ahead.

But TV faces pulled their socks up in the final buzzer round, getting a host of questions right, pipping the Shepley team at the post 62 points to 57.
