SIX good causes are £2,000 better off thanks to grants from Yorkshire Building Society (YBS).

Both Honley and Holmfirth YBS branches gave away £1,000 each as part of the company’s Charity Choices scheme.

Customers voted from a shortlist of charities for YBS to support.

Honley YBS gave £500 to Holme Valley Transport Scheme, which ferries isolated people to and from medical appointments.

The Honley Village Trust, which manages Honley Village Hall, received £300, while Friend-to-Friend Honley, which provides company for isolated people, received £200.

Holmfirth YBS gave £500 to the Huw Thatcher Trust, which raises money for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.

Cafe 100, a youth centre and support group in Holmfirth, gained £300, while Holme Valley Mountain Rescue was awarded £200.

Holmfirth YBS manager Julian Windras said: “The charities we chose to support provide invaluable services to our local community and we felt it was important that the decision on the amount of money received by each was placed in the hands of local people.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted and I hope these donations will make a real difference in Holmfirth and Huddersfield as a whole.”
