A meals on wheels service celebrated its third anniversary with a buffet lunch in the Colne Valley.
Slaithwaite Meals on Wheels organised the event for 20 senior citizens at The Swan pub Crimble. The event was also in memory of the First World War and included entertainment by Linthwaite singer Esme Barber, a raffle and games of bingo.
Publicans Glenn and Alison Worth provided food, including sandwiches, sausage rolls, trifle and buns as well as decorations including Union Jack tablecloths and bunting. Guests all went home with birthday cake.
Slaithwaite Meals on Wheels delivers a hot meal every Wednesday to about 30 elderly residents.
Alison said the food was provided with money for good causes collected as part of the pub’s regular lottery bonus ball competition. “Everyone seemed to enjoy it,” she said.
Meals on wheels organiser Pat Bohdan said: “The service is run by volunteers who cook and prepare the meals at St James’ Church. We are also bringing back a Friday tea-time fish and chips run.”
