Residents gave their community post office the stamp of approval when it re-launched.

Dozens of businesses also turned up to support Slaithwaite Post Office, which has undergone a massive refurbishment.

Huddersfield Giants players Jason Chan and Aaron Murphy cut the bunting on the Lewisham Road shop, which closed for almost 14 days in April so that it could be turned from a ‘standard’ to ‘main’ post office. The village has a thriving independent business and community cooperative scene.

A raffle organised in conjunction with Green Valley Grocers raised money for charities Meals on Wheels and Waves, who support elderly people and adults with learning disabilities.

The old style serving desks were ripped out and replaced with modern open plan counters and other changes were introduced to allow the shop to eventually begin full banking services and stock a larger currency selection.

Sub-postmistress Emma O’Connor said: “The refurbishment went really well. We love the outcome and so do the customers, with the new floors, ceilings, counters and signs”.
