A day care centre for adults with learning disabilities could soon be expanding.

The Waves centre in Slaithwaite has applied for consent to change the use of a nearby vacant industrial unit to a day centre.

A planning application shows the centre wants to expand into unit 16 of Upper Mills, Canalside, Slaithwaite.

The application says: “The applicant will continue to lease and use their original unit 5 for its original purposes and therefore this proposal will allow an increase in much needed community and social facilities.

“It will allow business expansion and increase employment.”

Waves is a vital community asset designed to give adults with learning difficulties help discovering how to live more independent lives during day care.

It’s thought the expansion will boost employee numbers by four. Waves currently has 10 full-time workers and four part-time employees. The application will be considered by Kirklees planners.
