ANOTHER day, another safety warning. It’s easy to become cynical about it, but we really should listen.

The Examiner reports today that we’re putting our lives in danger by not checking our tyres.

Many of us have no idea about the minimum tread and are driving about on bald tyres.

Think about it – tyres are the vehicle’s only point of contact with the road.

And it’s a mighty small point of contact at that.

Tyre treads are designed to pump water from the road surface and provide maximum grip. By the time the tread is worn down to the legal limit they will be unable to perform this task efficiently.

As road safety charity Brake says, it’s so easy to check. So why don’t we do it?
