PEOPLE with disabilities are being invited to try out South Asian arts and crafts.

Bollywood dancing and Indian musical instruments will be offered at two special events next week.

Aimed at people with physical disabilities or learning difficulties, one session is planned in Huddersfield and the other in Dewsbury.

The events are being run by Manasamitra, a South Asian arts organisation, as a celebration of a project to encourage those with physical or mental disabilities to learn something new.

The project is part of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Creative Minds strategy.

The events will be held on Monday (11am-1pm) at Huddersfield Town Hall and Thursday, November 8, (11am-1pm) at Dewsbury Town Hall.

Nigel McLoughlin, clinical services manager for learning disabilities at the Trust said: “This project has proved to be really popular.

“Taking part in social activities can have a really big impact on people’s self-esteem and confidence and can help them to develop new skills.”
