WELL done to the Salendine Nook High staff who secured funding to give sports a boost among schools in their area.

The efforts of Jane Lees and Danny Herman have provided a £43,000 boost to five schools from Sport England.

This means that pupils at these schools are being given the chance to try different sports – and these include trampolining, golf, rugby union, tennis and cricket.

These are probably the starting points for closer links between the schools and sports clubs and will give the pupils a chance to try something they will never have done before.

It’s a great way to introduce youngsters to sport at a ‘grass-roots’ level and, you never know, may just unearth a sports star of the future.

And it will show children there are many ways to get fit, enjoy sport and have a great time away from TV, computers and social networking sites.
