IT’S hard to believe that Scammonden Bridge is being allowed to lapse into such a shoddy state.

The landmark bridge is clearly rusting yet there are no plans by the Highways Agency to give it the lick of paint it so badly needs.

The agency has been asked for two years to do something about it – but nothing has happened and it looks like nothing will happen.

Let’s face it, it’s not as if it’s the Forth Bridge. Good quality paint will last for years.

After all, don’t we all pay a fortune in road tax?

Scammonden Bridge was opened by the Queen on October 14, 1971. You can’t help but feel that if she decided to pop back now to see how it was doing, it’d be painted before she arrived.
