OPEN land on a village high street could go after plans to build houses were revealed.

A bid to build homes on a green field site at Cross Lane, Stocksmoor (above) has been submitted to Kirklees planners.

The number of homes has not been decided but indicative plans suggest up to 16 could be built on the plot.

Applicant, Conroy Brook, says it will create a mixture of affordable two and three bed homes alongside some larger detached properties.

Its statement to planners says: “Although the site is currently open space, it is of limited value to the village in general and has been designated for future housing development since 1999.

“Any affordable housing provided by the scheme will provide a much-needed benefit to the local community where there is a lack of provision.“

The developer says it will retain the existing stone wall and hedges on the site.
