Students who gave up their spare time to help their community are set to celebrate their achievements.

Huddersfield New College students Codie Woodhouse, Molly Irons, Tia Hanley and Jodie Duell completed their National Citizen Service programme over the summer holidays.

The scheme is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England.

It gives them the chance to get involved with a project in the community and build skills for work and life.

The students from the New Hey Road college completed a week of residential activities at Huddersfield University.

They also helped plan and host a community coffee morning as part of the project.

Lee Speight, the college’s student enrichment and engagement manager, said: “We’re delighted that Codie, Molly, Tia and Jodie have completed their volunteering programme with the NCS.

“The four students have been fantastic ambassadors for the college as well as brilliant role models.

“We hope that their success with the National Citizen Service inspires other students to get involved in this worthwhile scheme.”

The group will be given a special ‘graduation’ ceremony on Thursday, September 26, at Huddersfield Town Hall.

They are each due to receive a signed certificate from Prime Minister David Cameron at the event.
