STUDENTS swapped the classroom for chef school at a Huddersfield pub.

The group of Year 10 pupils from Salendine Nook High School visited Toby Carvery in Birchencliffe.

The special lesson was led by the pub’s chef Chevonne Smorthit.

The students attended to complete a unit of study focused on understanding the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise.

The group got the chance to taste a range of different healthy foods against a range of processed food.

They learnt about the advantages of fresh vegetables and the importance of this in their daily diet.

Pupils were able to go away and look at their own diets with the advice they were given.

The school’s Carole McParland said she hoped they would be inspired by their experience in the future.

She said: “The event was all very positive and students enjoyed trying to distinguish the differences.

“The Toby Carvery has always been very helpful and we are delighted to have such a successful partnership with them.

“We hope that this experience may inspire some of our students to choose and follow catering as a possible career.”
