Over 800 parents, grandparents, friends and other relatives turned out to watch children strut their ballroom and Latin dancing skills learnt over the past year at Lightfoot School of Dancing.

Pupils of the Wooldale and Honley-based school entertained during three nights at the

Holmfirth Civic Hall with cha cha chas, gavottes, jives, waltzs, tangos, American smooths and freestyle dances. Next year, they will present their routines to a International Dance Teacher Association examiner.

The audience were especially entertained by the youngest class in the school – some of whose members were only 18 months old – who danced to the Teddy Bears’ Picnic and The Grand Old Duke of York.

School principal Kathie Lightfoot said: “The children did so well that Santa even made a special appearance, even though he is obviously very busy just at the moment finalising the last details for Christmas Eve, to tell the children how impressed he was with how well they had danced and for all their hard work over the last 12 months.

“He just had time to give all of the children a little pre-season present before his reindeer whipped him away back to the North Pole.”
