ROY Castle was a local and national treasure.

So it’s great to see that in the final days of the iconic BBC Television Centre in London a little bit of Castle history has been remembered – and recreated.

And, better still, that dancers from his home town were invited along to recreate one of those typical Castle moments.

It is more than 35 years since the entertainer, who died of lung cancer in 1994, tapped his way into the record books. He held several records, including one for the most people tap dancing at the same time.

Tomorrow, the BBC’s magazine programme, The One Show, pays tribute to Roy’s fantastic stunt, originally done for his Record Breakers show, with hundreds of dancers tapping in the TV centre courtyard.

Dancers from Huddersfield and Brighouse took part in the filming which would have delighted the man who, despite his fame, always stayed close to his roots in the Holme Valley.

Well done the tappers and well done the Beeb for helping us all to remember an entertainer who always gave people something to smile about.
