SINCE the Government introduced student loans many young people from working families have been discouraged from applying for a university place straight from school and have decided to earn for a year or two in order to ease the financial strain on their parents.

Obtaining additional A-levels is often necessary for them to complete university entrance requirements. In other words, the part played by Huddersfield Technical College in the total pattern of local educational opportunities is absolutely crucial.

Its A-level courses are essential for older students who wish to enter tertiary education.

Because this Government is more dedicated to allowing market forces to dictate the shape of our society then any Conservative Government could possibly be it is ready to ignore the needs of able young people who need support at the start of their careers.

Whoever would have imagined a Labour Government that made it a crime to be poor!
