NOW is the time to be creative to get fledgling businesses set up and in action.

So many people have ideas to start new enterprises yet simply don’t have the financial backing to get them off the ground.

So it’s welcome news that Kirklees Council is giving four Huddersfield entrepreneurs the chance to launch their businesses for free in Queensgate Market. They will receive a rent-free shop or stall for six months, as well as a £500 grant to pay for signs and shop fittings.

It’s a win-win scenario. After all, no-one wants to see empty stalls in the market and the fuller it is in there, the more shoppers it will attract and the busier it will be. And, if they are successful, the hope is they will stay, start paying their rent and become well-established.

Everyone needs a head-start in life and this shows that the council is starting to think out of the box to help businesses individually and the town centre as a whole.
