Superb weather blessed the Penistone Show as crowds gathered to enjoy the annual extravaganza of activities.

The historic event last Saturday drew 15,000 spectators as sunshine took hold after a damp grey start.

Show spokeswoman, Liz Walker, said: “We were delighted with entries in all our livestock classes.

“Bulls starred in our cattle lines, impressing everyone with their power and size.

“Once again, rare breed sheep put up a strong showing in the sheep pens, while Penistone pigs are becoming famous.

“Rare breeds, young handlers, plus an amusing and informative commentary from Pig Section Secretary Tim Booth, all combined to draw the crowds.

“Penistone’s poultry is also of very high quality and the tent was full throughout the day.

“The dog show was rightly popular, and the Showground was alive with dogs of all breeds.

“Jive Pony, the stunt riding Main Ring entertainment, was first class.

“Combining glamour, athleticism and humour, they showcased wonderful training skills and remarkable courage.

“During both their displays the grandstand was packed and the ring perimeter thronged.

“Rotherham Rockets Flyball followed with an explosion of doggy speed and enthusiasm.

“Our record Shire entry was also welcomed by all.

“Inviting the South West Yorkshire Shire Horse Hiring Society to join us for the annual show ensured a wonderful display, to much popular applause.”
