PRIMARY school youngsters have created a new map about the history of their village.

Pupils at Denby First School created a map of Upper Denby village after learning about the background of the area (see picture).

They started with an investigation of Bank Lane bridleway, an old paved packhorse route running north from the village to Denby Dale.

This involved looking at places along the way and exploring along the edges of the lane to look for clues about its age and use.

The pupils also visited buildings to learn about their uses and then drew what they saw and imagined.

Their pictures are shown on the map and also in the border of packhorse ponies around the edge.

The map, which was part funded by the East Peak Innovation Partnership, was unveiled by Madalane and Alex, members of the school council.
