I STILL cannot believe how ward councillors who have represented the village of Almondbury for a number of years could not have envisaged that the plan to close the library would result in anything but popular outrage.

Often communities only greet such plans with passive disapproval and politicians get away with it, whilst in Almondbury it has been the collective uproar of the village that has forced the councillors to make a U-turn.

We must now ensure that the proposals are thrown out by Cabinet and the democratic discussion that we have begun continues.
