I WAS very disappointed to hear, and strongly condemn, the news from Denmark that a series of caricatures which caused a great deal of controversy two years ago have been reprinted. Such caricatures are extremely hurtful, not only to all peace loving Muslims but all civilised human beings.

I respectfully submit that such caricatures are extremely provocative and inflammatory and will only play into the hands of extremist elements.

The Danish newspapers have allegedly justified their actions on the basis of defending their right to “freedom of speech”. However, such vulgarity regarding any sacred person of any religion can never be justified. Freedom of expression can not be used as licence to deliberately play upon the heartfelt sentiments of people.
