SOME of the charity events that are held in Huddersfield never cease to amaze us.
Almost 1,000 people took part in the Kirkwood Hospice Midnight Memory Walk this weekend raising a magnificent £71,000 – slightly higher than last year’s £66,000 – and a phenomenal total bearing in mind the dire economic situation we are in.
Perhaps the driving force is the fact that this is such a personal event with people walking in memory of relatives and friends they have lost and continue to miss so much.
Behind the tally is clearly a deep respect for the work the hospice does day in and day out, along with admiration for its remarkable staff and volunteers.
It is a place right at the very heart of our community and that’s why it gets such magnificent support from a very thankful public.
