40% budget cuts mean it’s time to talk – dates set for public meetings about Kirklees Council future

First step, abolish the useless abomination that is Kirklees, sack all the overpaid people with their snouts in the publicly funded trough and bring back Huddersfield Borough Council.

Do you have this comment on copy and paste? It appears with monotonous regularity whenever the word Kirklees is in a piece.

You need to come up with some constructive responses. You may not like bureaucracy but in a modern developed state it is a necessity.

If you'd bothered to read other pieces on this subject you'd know that a goodly number of "chiefs" and squadrons of "indians" have already ridden off into the sunset. You'd also be aware that central governments has reduced its funding significantly.

I think the first thing they should do is stop putting in claims for travel, paper, dinner and other stuff. Normal people pay for their own and that would save a big chunk. Then a pay cut would help. I am sure our councillors would not suffer too much. It is about time they started to lead by example.

Your list is like Ed Balls and his pensioners’ fuel allowance wheeze. The amount compared with the annual spend in Kirklees is miniscule.

Posters on this site think there was a golden age when councillors worked for free. They didn't.

There are many problems with local government councillors. However, the major one is the constraints placed on their actions by central government.

'Localism' might be the latest buzzword but national government (by whichever party) ensure that's all it is a "word".
