YOUNG people often get a hard time for causing a nuisance in their neighbourhoods.
After a summer of national riots, largely by young people, a small part of Huddersfield was targeted by copycat rioters who trashed the Chestnut Centre in Deighton.
It’s a real community centre which offers countless activities for people who live in that area.
So it was a shame that people – possibly some who live in Deighton – chose to vandalise a building at the heart of it.
But young people are fighting back – positively.
They spent an evening making 350 cupcakes to distribute among the older folk.
It’s great to see young people thinking of others and using their spare time to good effect.
It’s a small but important step to showing the Deighton area there are some brilliant young people living there.
