He can talk the talk, but if the courts let the people police arrest walk free it won't make any difference.

The fact Huddersfield has a prolific offender with 200+ convictions and is still being arrested/in court almost weekly says all about the legal system.

Having read the "plan" all I can say is that I'm underwhelmed. It is an almost carbon copy of those previously produced under the old system. Fine words butter no parsnips. The police service will carry on using the targets and priorities handed down from the Home Department

Once again it shows that the posts of PCC and their deputies aren't really needed.

How much has this experiment cost us so far? It was never about accountability but about ideology. Anyone with an ounce of common sense could see it was nothing more than a wheeze to distance Whitehall and the Home Secretary from the flak that comes when decisions have to be made.

First Trans-Pennine Express and Northern get green light in review

On the majority of train journeys I make, there's a Northern Rail conductor apologising for not being able to sell tickets. Explanations vary from "ticket machine not working" to "shortage of working ticket machines at Manchester Victoria".

Now that Northern have an extra two years on their franchise, perhaps they could afford to invest in some new ticket machines to replace the ones which don't work any more.
