FOLLOWING recent letters Family Allowance was originally five shillings (25p) for second and subsequent children. Later it was raised to eight shillings (40p) for the second child and 10 shillings (50p) for third and subsequent children. Maternity allowance was originally £10 and later raised to £12 10s. Milk coupons were available during pregnancy and until the child was five.
