I REGRET that the situation regarding. unhelpful staff at Manchester Airport (Examiner January 31) is probably quite normal.

It could be that staff were all very busy, or it could be that they had not been specifically instructed, forms not filled in, and heaven-forbid, not covered by insurance. Quite simply they would not be permitted to assist.

I ordered a wheelchair for an elderly friend at Leeds Bradford Airport. The queues were out of the main entrance, so we sat in a waiting area. A male member of staff appeared with the wheelchair. She got into the chair and he asked if she had checked in. When told - “Not yet” - he literally stormed off shouting – “She shouldn’t even be sitting in the chair. I’m not insured if she hasn't checked in”.

Check-in staff then informed me that while we shouldn’t really have the use of the chair, they wouldn’t stop me if I wanted to push it!

The only advice I can offer is – “Just do it.”.
