A SASSY new Women’s Institute group is launching in Skelmanthorpe and aiming to attract a younger audience.

Dubbed, The Crafty Cookies, the group is planning to meet on the third Monday of each month, starting on November 19.

The new group was set up by four local women, who met through work, friends and community gatherings.

Founder member, Louise Taylor, said: “The Crafty Cookies is a new style of WI group that is all about friendship, fun and learning new skills.

“We are aiming at a younger audience, and are hoping to challenge the more traditional WI image (although there may well be jam making!) by creating a younger, more hip group of like minded ladies.

“We want to encourage more people to get involved and support their local community.

“To this end we are asking small local companies to come in and tell us about themselves and do a few demonstrations.

“There are so many fantastic local businesses in this area and supporting them in today’s uncertain economic climate is important to us.”

“The group’s first meeting will be on Monday, November 19, from 7pm – 9pm at the Savoy Youth Community Centre in Skelmanthorpe.

“We aim to have a variety of crafts on offer for you to try, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in return for a small donation of £3.

“Naturally, homemade cake will be available,” Louise added.
