Neighbour Stacey Allan, of Copley Avenue, estimated that the attack lasted around five to 10 minutes.
“It was horrible. The dog had hold of his right arm.
“It was pulling him around and he was in agony and there was blood everywhere.
“We got it off and he fell to the floor.
“His arm was pumping with blood so we put belt around to try stem it until the ambulance came.”
The postman has been named by locals
The postman, named locally as “Jack” and thought to be in his 20s, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, where he has undergone emergency surgery to his injured arm. The dog was seized by police following the attack, which happened late yesterday (FRI) morning.
Attacked happened round corner from earlier dog on postman attack
This afternoon’s attack took place on Golcar Brow Road, just around the corner from where postman Jason Lee was savaged by another dog.
Mr Lee suffered severe injuries to his arm in the attack on Copley Avenue, three years ago.
Deliveries to Copley Avenue were suspended to the street on more than one occasion after the dog was found running loose.
