A BOOK on the legendary Holmfirth Tiger has been written by a woman researcher – and now she is seeking a publisher.

Lynn Harter emailed the Express & Chronicle after reading our story on the remarkable animal that was the talk of the town in the Saturday August 2 edition.

Lynn wrote: “I have been sent the article from your newspaper about Fenella the ‘Holmfirth Tiger’ (August 2).

“You may be interested to know that a couple years ago I researched this story with the help and the blessing of the Overend sisters Meg and Kassie, who kept the tiger.

“They were extremely pleased with the finished product, but I never got further than that.

It is still sitting waiting for someone to be interested enough to publish it.

“Would you (or your readers) know of any local publishers that may like to see my work – now that this wonderful tale has been brought to life again?

My interest in her (Fenella) came from researching Blackpool social history of the 1930s.

“I was fascinated to hear of a tiger being shown on the beach – in a caravan!

“What was more, for 6d you could get really close looking at her through the caravan door.

She was, however only there for three weeks, and it was part of a desperate measure to help raise funds to keep Fenella fed during the lean years.

“She was never exploited for profit”
