A FUNDRAISING night is being staged to turn frocks into flights.

Women from all over Huddersfield are expected to gather for a special clothes sale at Marsh Liberal Club next month.

The event will raise much-needed funds for the Keep It Up campaign, which supports Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Huddersfield Town’s Youth Academy.

It has been organised by Katie Galvin from Lindley.

For the past few weeks she has been asking family, friends and colleagues to spring clean their wardrobes.

She asked them to find clothes, handbags, jewellery and other accessories that could be put on sale – and word has spread.

Katie, 26, now has just a few weeks left to gather as many items as possible for people to buy on the night.

She said: “The idea is that 50% of the revenue from the clothes sold will go back to the seller and 50% will go to the Keep It Up campaign.

“However many more people have been even more generous and donated the items for free so that all monies can go to this worthwhile cause, which is great.

“We’re hoping to have a really fun but valuable evening.

“Men are more than welcome to attend too – there will be a cake stall, picture quiz and a raffle so there’s something for everyone.”

Raffle prizes for the evening have been donated by local businesses.

Katie was inspired to organise the event by the fundraising efforts of her brother, who is taking part in Town’s third Pedal for Pounds challenge from Yeovil to Huddersfield in May.

The Keep It Up appeal is run in partnership with the football club.

For every £1 raised 50p is donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, while the other 50p is given to the HTFC Youth academy which encourages the development of future football stars.

Katie, a account director with a Leeds-based PR company, said: “I’ve read that to keep their two helicopters in the air the YAA needs to raise £7,200 a day – a phenomenal amount of money.

“That’s why the charitable efforts of people in our county are so important.”

The charity provides a life-saving rapid response emergency service to five million people across Yorkshire.

Staff fly seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape of major cities and motorways, rural and isolated locations.

Katie Collinson, key relationships coordinator for YAA, said: “We’d like to thank Katie for her support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Keep It Up campaign with Huddersfield Town FC.

“We really appreciate the hard work that goes into organising an event of this type.

“We would also like to thank the individuals that have kindly donated items for selling.

“Any items not sold on the evening will also benefit Keep It Up through our recycling campaign.

“As an independent charity, we rely solely on groups, organisations and individuals such as Katie to help us raise the money we require each year to continue our vital service.”

The Frocks make Flights fundraiser starts at 7.30pm on April 18 and can be followed on Twitter @Frocks _ Flights.
