A LEADING member of Holme Valley Business Association is appealing for Honley residents to free up private land for parking.

Clr Royston Rogers, who is the immediate past chairman of Holme Valley North Area Committee, is urging locals to find space for traders to park – particularly during the busy festive season.

"Parking spaces are at a premium in the centre of Honley and shopkeepers and business people obviously need somewhere to park.

"The problem is that, when they use the car parks, there’s not enough spaces for shoppers", he said.

"We are appealing for villagers with land available to let traders park their vehicles on it – thus opening up parking spaces for visitors to the area."

Clr Rogers said that the squash club had agreed to allow traders room on their land – provided they stumped up the £100 annual club fee – and he was hopeful similar arrangements could be made in other parts of the village.

He asks anyone with land available to contact him on 07710001008 or through the Kirklees Council website: royston.rogers@Kirklees.gov.uk
