THE Emley ‘rat-run’ is the focus of attention among Denby Dale parish councillors.

In a bid to improve road safety in the area the council has asked for ‘active’ road signs at two sites in Emley – but have had their requests turned down by Kirklees Council Highways officials.

The official accident figures and traffic speeds do not put the area above the average risk.

But Denby Dale councillors say the assessment for active road signs on the A636 is continuing.

For several years the parish council has been lobbying to have the polling station in Emley moved to a more suitable and safer location.

Emley councillor Eddie Shaw (pictured above) recommended that the Methodist church in the village would be a preferable venue and the council’s recommendation has been accepted by the elections office.
