Staff at local building societies have helped contribute £1.23m to charities.

The branches of the Yorkshire Building Society in the Huddersfield area have contributed towards a charitable fund that has boosted a tremendous 2,400 causes.

And they've also contributed to the 5,000 volunteering hours by staff in aid of the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundations.

Since the start of the year the branches – such as those in Slaithwaite, Lindley, Waterloo, Honley, Huddersfield, Brighouse, Meltham and Holmfirth – have raised more than £1,600 through donations for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

They took part in tea parties as part of the Yorkshire Day Celebrations for the charity.

And staff also dressed up in inventive costumes as part of the charity’s big fundraising event Superhero Friday.

In total they have donated more than £60,000 to charities in the Huddersfield area.

Some of the most recent donations have been to the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund for new equipment and new toys for children accompanying parents for visits to the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

And, as a result, the building society has been awarded gold in the International CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Excellence Award to recognise its commitment to playing an active role in the communities in serves.
