MORE than 30 families from Golcar marched to the top of Castle Hill – and marched back down again.

The newly-formed Manor Road Parent Teacher and Friends’ Association organised a sponsored walk.

The association, attached to Golcar Junior, Infant and Nursery School, hopes to have raised £500 for school funds.

The association is the relaunched and “re-branded” friends’ group.

So far a variety of events have been held including a quiz night and a race night.

Walk organiser Julie Brian said: “After some events for adults we wanted something that all the family could take part in.

“We had 32 families join us and everyone had a really good time.”

Families met up at Hall Bower Athletic Club and walked to the top of Castle Hill.

After exploring around Victoria Tower – and catching their breath – the families retraced their steps, returning to Hall Bower.

Julie said: “It took us about an hour. The only hazard we came across was an over-friendly pony.”

Families enjoyed a barbecue afterwards back at the club.

Funds raised by the new group have been used to buy dictionaries for the school and to subsidise the cost of trips out.

The group is now planning a summer fair.
