AMBULANCE crews across Yorkshire dealt with more than 1,300 emergency calls in the early hours of New Year's Day.
A spokesman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which covers the counties of North, South, East and West Yorkshire, said: "We've been very busy."
The figures for 999 calls from midnight to 0900 GMT were about double the number for a normal Tuesday.
They included medical emergencies, drink-related incidents, assaults and "inappropriate calls".
The spokesman added that the service had called in extra ambulance and control centre staff to cope with the anticipated increase.
