THE Forestry Commission is urging Yorkshire woodland managers to learn more to ensure they meet new conservation laws.
Bats and otters are two of the region’s endangered species which were given extra European Union protection in August last year.
Other EU listed wildlife includes the dormouse, great crested newts, Killarney fern and Lady’s slipper.
Protected species may not be killed or disturbed even if it is a result of a lawful operation where damage could be not reasonably avoided.
The Forestry Commission will highlight related issues at a fully- booked meeting at Dalby Forest Visitor Centre, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, on January 9.
