HUDDERSFIELD people will be invited to sample the delights of blueberries tomorrow when a fruit campaign hits the town centre.
Shoppers at the Kingsgate shopping centre will have the chance to try the popular superfood on Friday as part of a mission to get us to eat more healthily.
The Chilean Fresh Fruit Association is leading the Yorkshire-wide campaign after the region was rated the third worst in the country for adults eating five or more fruit and vegetables a day.
Lianne Jones, the association’s European field manager, said: “We were shocked to learn that Yorkshire had one of the worst track records in the country for consuming the recommended daily allowance of fruit.
“We thought what better way to showcase the exceptional properties of Chilean blueberries than thrusting them directly into the hands of people on the streets?”
The berries – which are rich in fibre, calcium and vitamins A and C – are associated with many health benefits, including boosting memory and concentration, helping good circulation and improving the skin’s natural skin protection.
Ms Jones added: “We going to do our best to get as many of these tasty little blue fruits into as many hands as possible.
“We also aim to educate and inform consumers so that no-one in Yorkshire has an excuse not to be eating blueberries this winter.”
The campaign team will be visiting sites across Yorkshire in January to promote the health benefits of blueberries.
