Stone-throwers in new attack on train

STONE-throwing yobs have attacked a train in Huddersfield, just weeks after similar attacks in the area.

In the latest attack a train windscreen was smashed by a stone as it travelled between Lockwood and Huddersfield stations just before 9pm last Friday.

It followed attacks on seven First TransPennine Express trains as they neared Milnsbridge viaduct on the afternoon of December 22.

Again, no-one was hurt.

British Transport Police have offered a £500 reward in a bid to catch the culprits in the Milnsbridge case.

On Friday a Northern Rail service from Sheffield was passing under a footbridge between Thornfield Road and Burbeary Road in Lockwood when a stone smashed the centre windscreen's outer skin.

BTP officers searched the area, including Lockwood station, but there was no trace of any suspects.

The BTP’s Insp Tracy Metcalf said: “It’s vital we catch those involved in this incident.

“Throwing stones is a form of criminal damage. There is also potential for serious accident or injury.

“I would urge anyone who was in that area around the time of the incident and who may seen anything or have any information that may help us to contact us in strict confidence.’’
