Danger day is here . . .

FORGET Friday the 13th; tomorrow is the most dangerous day of the year for drivers.

According to studies of 1.8m motor insurance claims there is a higher risk of road accidents on January 18 than on any other day of the year.

And what could make the figures worse is that the date coincides with being on a Friday, which is statistically the worst day of the week for collisions.

Analysis of road casualty figures by the RAC Foundation found that more car users are killed or injured during the Friday evening rush hour than at any other time of the week.

Sue Longthorn, managing director of Admiral insurers, said that because January 18 this year falls on a Friday it created a potentially calamitous combination.

The figures – taken from 15 years of claims – show that the second riskiest driving date is December 20.

And as it only comes around once every four years the safest date for road users is February 29, followed by Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
