Fatal fall at care home

A WOMAN of 89 died in hospital in Huddersfield after falling while using a stairlift at a care home.

Emily Cecily Wadsworth died at the Royal Infirmary last October 11.

She had suffered head injuries in a fall at the Bankfield Manor care home on Boothtown Road in Halifax on October 6.

An inquest in Huddersfield yesterday heard that carers had taken Mrs Wadsworth to her room by carers. But she must have tried to follow them back downstairs when she had her accident.

A post-mortem showed that she had severe heart disease and this could have caused her to collapse.

She fractured facial bones and suffered two serious brain haemorrhages.

Her family were told she would not survive an operation and they agreed she should be kept comfortable but receive no further intervention.

Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a verdict of accidental death.
