Time for bagging burglars

POLICE want the public to help their battle against burglary as a Bag A Burglar campaign is launched in Calderdale.

The number of burglaries across Calderdale has gone down by 15% compared to last year and 60% since 2003/4.

In a drive to improve things still further police will be distributing leaflets to people asking them to help Bag A Burglar.

People can call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111 to pass on information about people they suspect of committing such offences.

In addition, police are offering to pay rewards of up to £1,000 to people who pass on information that leads to the arrest and charge of burglars.

Det Chief Insp Paul Fountain, of Calderdale police, said: “This division is performing very well and we are making great progress in putting burglars on the back foot.

“We now want the public to help us by passing on to Crimestoppers any information they may have about people they know are committing these types of offences.

“While burglary in Calderdale is at its lowest level for many years it is a violation of people’s homes.

“Also, the mental effects can linger long after the physical signs have gone.

“We want people to help us take a stand and put the fear of crime back on to the offender. Your call makes that difference. You can help us Bag A Burglar.’’

To help police Bag A Burglar and make your area a safer place to live call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
