A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE businessman went on a high-speed car chase after a masked gang robbed him at gunpoint.

Now Mohammed Rashid is offering a £2,000 cash reward to anyone who can identify the three men who escaped with more than £5,000 in cash and goods from Lepton Food and Wine Stores.

Mr Rashid took off in pursuit of the robbers – all wearing balaclavas – in his powerful BMW car after they took £1,200 cash and about £4,000 worth of cigarettes and alcohol on Friday night.

He tailed them from the Highgate Lane shop as far as Wakefield Road before they got away.

Mr Rashid, 47, who owns several other businesses, including a number on Bradford’s ‘Golden Mile’, said: “If I’d have caught up with them I wouldn’t have thought twice about ramming their car.

“I wasn’t scared. I’m from a tribal background in Kashmir, I have been in war zones and seen shoot-outs.

“I run a number of bars and nightclubs and I see punks like this every day – they’re nothing to me. I know how to look after myself.”

The gang had burst into his store at about 8.45pm.

One demanded cash while another threatened him with a 32mm pistol.

Mr Rashid said: “I’m familiar with firearms because in Kashmir I’m licensed to carry a 32mm gun and a pump action rifle, so I knew the gun wasn’t a fake.

“I had cashed up and all the money was underneath the counter. When they opened the till there was no cash in there, so they asked me where it was.

“The one with the gun took a swing at me, but I moved out of the way.

“I said I had cashed up, but one of them found the money and gave it to one of the others.”

The gang put the cigarettes and bottles of whisky and champagne in a bag before taking off.

They fled in a grey Renault Megane convertible with a black roof without switching the headlights on.

Mr Rashid said he was within 15 yards of their car until the junction with Wakefield Road, but they sped out in front of another car and he had to stop.

It is the second time in just over a year the shop has been robbed. Mr Rashid’s son, Zafran, was threatened by a gang armed with a gun and a machete in a similar incident in November 2006.

Father-of-four Mr Rashid, who lives in Dewsbury, said: “No-one ever touched me in his life and got away with it. I’m not going to let this happen again.

“It doesn’t bother me, but last time when it happened to my son he had to take 10 days off and I have women who work here who are petrified.

“They won’t get away with it if they try it again.”

He could not describe the robbers because they were masked, but said one was about 6ft 4ins tall.
